Design of a new bridge over the Neris river in Kaunas

Year 2019

Following the implementation of the Icelandic highway project in Kaunas, Kelprojektas will design a new bridge over the river Neris, which will be part of the A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda road. There will also be a new viaduct across Jonava Street, and a connecting road will be installed on the right side of the main road.

The new bridge will be built on the site of a 348 m long bridge built in 1964. The construction of this bridge is part of a grandiose reconstruction on the outskirts of Kaunas, next to the Mega shopping center.

The Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda highway is a part of the trans-European road network, therefore the significant improvement of traffic conditions on it by building a new bridge is important both for Lithuania and for the quality of international transport.

Now the Kleboniškis bridge consists of two separate bridges. The entire Icelandic highway project will separate transit and local traffic flows: the 4 middle lanes separated by barriers would be for transit traffic with a maximum speed of 110 km / h and the 4 side lanes (two on each side) for local traffic on connecting roads. purpose.

Traffic from Vilnius to Klaipeda will be diverted by the new bridge. During the implementation of the project, the southern bridge, built in 1981, will be repaired, on which traffic now flows from Klaipėda to Vilnius.
