Design works of Rail Baltica Kaunas-Ramygala section

Year 2019

The main geodetic, geological and geotechnical surveys will be carried out in the 78 km section from Kaunas to Ramygala. Extensive research is carried out in order to select the most appropriate engineering solutions – according to which the main design solutions for the most important infrastructure objects will be selected. The most important object of this section is even a 1.4 km long railway bridge over the Neris near Jonava.

This section stretches through five municipalities in total – Kaunas city and district, Jonava, Kėdainiai, Panevėžys districts. The total research area is as high as 565 hectares. Engineering solutions will be developed for a 30 km section from Šveicarija to Žeimiai and from Žeimiai to Šėta.

Here, designers will look for the best construction solutions for road and railway viaducts and green bridges. The elements will be assessed on the basis of their price, technical, environmental impact and design characteristics.

In Lithuania, the length of the Kaunas-Ramygala section of Rail Baltica will reach 78 km. The preliminary technical project envisages that this section will have seven road viaducts, 11 railway viaducts, three green bridges and four railway bridges, including the longest railway bridge in the Baltic States. The length of the bridge over the Neris River is 1.7 km.
