Kelprojektas, the leading Lithuanian company of road, bridge, railway and port exploration and engineering, has submitted the designs for the reconstruction of stretches of the national significance road Riga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningrad. The reconstruction will be implemented on 12.5 km of road stretches near Kelmė and Tauragė by the end of this year followed by another round of repairs on 24.6 km of roads next year. The reconstruction will include strengthening of the road pavement and installation of the most advanced traffic safety and environmental solutions.

“Pavement will be reconstructed and traffic safety will be improved. The repairs will provide better driving conditions making the roads more appealing for transit. The implemented works will also help cut accident rates that are notably high in these parts of the road”, said Algimantas Medžiaušis, the CEO of UAB Kelprojektas.

The modernised and reconstructed stretches of the road will have new asphalt pavement, remodelled intersections and bus stops, and modern storm drain systems.Traffic safety improvement measures will include lighting in intersections and settlements, central reservations, speed bumps, pedestrian and cycling paths as well as infrastructure allowing pedestrians to safely cross the road. Moreover, the stretches of the road with heavy animal migration will be upgraded with measures preventing wild animals from accessing the road.

“Citizens will experience the reconstruction of the roads in terms of improved traffic safety, cheaper car maintenance and shorter travelling times.Where the noise levels exceed the permissible limits near residential houses located close to the road, windows of the buildings will be replaced with soundproof windows”, said Arvydas Domatas, Head of the Department of Transport Communication Development and Environment.
