Modernization project of Via Baltica section in Kaunas district

The section of the Via Baltica to be improved in Kaunas district has four traffic lanes, but the transit traffic flow is not separated from the local one, there are no pedestrian and bicycle paths, and the permitted speed is 130 km / h instead. reaches only 90 km / h. In order to ensure uniform parameters of infrastructure, traffic safety and maximum permitted speed on the Via Baltica highway, modernization works are planned.

Provides preparatory works for the section of the A5 Kaunas – Marijampolė – Suwałki road belonging to the Via Baltica highway from the intersection with the national road no. 130 Kaunas – Prienai – Alytus to the border of Kaunas district. A plan for the development of the communications engineering infrastructure in this section will be prepared, as well as a project for the acquisition of land for public needs will be prepared and implemented.

In order to ensure safe traffic conditions for all potential road users, innovative, technically and traffic-safe, environmentally friendly solutions will be sought. At the intersections and roads of the mentioned section, it is planned to identify problematic places from the point of view of traffic safety, to select appropriate engineering traffic safety measures to correct them.

During the preparation of the special spatial planning document, at least three alternatives of technical solutions will be analyzed, according to which traffic flows will be modeled. During the implementation of the land acquisition project for public needs, it is planned to form about 215 ha of territory, which is necessary for the sustainable development of the Via Baltica highway.
